yths say that the indigenous Greek varieties Xinomavro and Negroska, from which PDO Goumenissa Hadjivarytis is produced, were the wine of choice of Philip, King of Macedonia, father of Alexander the Great. In addition to this, local accounts even mention that large quantities of wine from the region were transported to France during World War I because it was so excellent.
The history of the winery, though less grandiose, is a story made through summer family gatherings in Mediterranean style, endless late night conversations in a drunken state of love for winemaking and a wine that speaks for itself.
A multi-vintage wine with an intense red colour and light brick red highlights. Its aroma, which is complex, is dominated by small red fruits such as blackberry and cherry, complemented by aromas of spices, tomato, olive and vanilla. The palate is full-bodied, aromatic with rich tannins and a long finish.
It accompanies red and white meats, grilled or cooked with sauces, pasta and yellow cheeses.
